the sights of Tambo

Can you spot the Kangaroos in the photo below?

And if you can how many can you see? LOL this is what we saw on our Coolibah walk in Tambo. We got given a map of town and it was outlined on the map so we went to one point on the map which we couldn't find in the actual town so we tried another point and came across a beaten path that we thought might be it and when it came to the river it just stopped ... why? ... because the river had water in it and normally it doesn't hence why they never built a bridge to get to the path on the other side!!! So we found another track that follows the river on this side and eventually the Barcoo river ran out of water and we could cross to get to the other side where all the main sites were but we couldn't be bothered going back to see where the Qantas plane crashed or the Cemetery. So we continued on and poor ole Kouta just thinks all the way through the walk why can't we be back at the tent just lying in the sun instead of treaking through the dried up horse and cattle shit?

But it didn't take long until he got excited when he saw some horses frolicing around and drinking from a pool of water!

They are not wild but just roam on the outskirts of town ... only in the country!
After the Coolibah walk we walked back through town and there are a few old style buildings and the library is one which use to be the old court house, police and jail.

It is well preserved and the date reads 1888 and just up from it is the post office.
this building is not so old (1908) and Neil reckons it still has its' original clay down pipes!
Like on most of our rest days we have begun to get into the habit of having our main meal at lunchtime - only because there is more daylight to cook and clean everything up so since the campground is rather basic the bbq is a wood fired one so we bought some hamburgers from the local butcher and had hamburgers for lunch - if you look at the 'what we have consumed' part of the blog you will see we eat alot of bread and since coming into Queensland there seems to be a monopoly on certain industrial bakeries that distribute their bread and no one elses - since Mitchell we have had to have bread that comes from Charleville and in Bayswater we pay Mr Lee Lee $1.85c per wholemeal loaf ... we are paying anywhere from $3.70 to $4.00 per loaf! and what is worse the thickness is really thick and we don't get as many slices (mayber 17 including the crusts!) so you would think we have less due to the size of the bread ... no!
Neil looks a 'natural' at the wood bbq!

Off course it is fresh bread but I find it easier to eat my hamburgers with the bread toasted!
Tomorrow we start our 3 day ride to Barcaldine so we won't be online until late Monday.

  1. Hi N, J & K. I've just caught up on your blog after a long time. What an amazing trip. Thanks for doing it and posting all the photos for us to see. It saves us from having to do it ourselves. (can you even imagine that? haha). Ashlee and Alex say hiiiii. Leo says "Janet, buy bigger jars of jam for Neil". You 2 are looking so toned and tanned. Be safe, have fun. Suzanne.
