Inglewood to Texas = 56km
Cummulative total = 6777km
After posting the blog at Inglewood another touring couple turned up at the caravan park - Stephanie and Tim from Brisbane. They are on a Bike Friday tandem bike and are on a 3 week holiday following the same way as us to Inverell then heading to Glen Innes (we go to Uralla) and then back to Brisbane. Nice couple very chatty and so are the locals at the caravan park. I did have my reservations when we rocked up to this caravan park - very small and alot of permanents and they are mainly men - but obviously I shouldn't judge a book by its cover as they were very friendly towards us and basically in the end they were just men wanting a little bit of a chat and saw that we all were beyond the norm for what the normally get and were happy that they could chat to us! Incredibly friendly and they adored Neil!
We left around 8.30am after chatting with Stephanie and Tim (who popped into town to have a pancake brekky!!!) and there was no wind just a slight tail wind. The road to Texas is in the Shire of Goondiwindi and so the roads were a little lumpy and bumpy. It was undulating to Texas which is the start of weeks of hills ahead of us! Very beautiful scenery and full of lush green pastures and Neil liked the rustic feel of the shed below!
The legs felt okay today and we made pretty good time to Texas - I think we wanted to get there in case it started to rain - the locals at the caravan park said rain and the clouds were very grey but the forecast said the rain is to be dumped in Goondiwindi and very little will carry on towards us - so we got there at 12.30 and no rain fell!
The campground at Texas is small but nice and very cheap. Went for a walk into town to get some food and saw that they had a vet but it is only open Mon and Fri from 9-10.30am and Tues 9-1pm so we missed the vet as Kouta is scratching alot and needs a shot to stop him scratching so much. He was like this last year and the shot really settled him down but he escaped it until Inverell!
Stephanie and Tim turned up later in the afternoon and during the early evening another cycle tourist turned up at the park - Ben from Brisbane - now what are the chances of 5 cycle tourists ending up at the same small out of the way town? practically zero!!!
We woke the next morning and just finished breakfast when it decided to rain and quite a heavy shower it was. so all of us rushed to our tents and waited it out and as soon as it stopped another heavy shower came through - the radio forecast did say that there would be showers and passing during the morning - so we waited it out and we decided that we would stay here in Texas and take advantage that it is a Tuesday and we would be able to take Kouta to the Vet so we stayed while the others pushed on to Ashford.
So Kouta had a nice meeting with the Vet who he hated in the end. While Neil was paying for the Vets' services I went outside and there was an old man with a HUGE dog that was around 50kg and a cross between a ridgeback and rotweiller - a very friendly dog but OMG it was just solid. I pointed out to the man that I tow Kouta in this wagon and I wouldn't be able to tow his dog and he replies that more than likely his dog would tow me!!!
We spent the rest of the day reading and relaxing ...
