Cecil Plains to Millmerran = 46km
Cummulative total = 6651km
We just made it here in time before the rain came!
It did rain last night and it wasn't that bad and I think we both slept through the most of it as we woke this morning and there was a fair bit of water lying around but the tent was threatened of being flooded like at Kingaroy! We checked the radar and saw that Roma was getting heavy rain and that meant that it wasn't going to hit this area for another 5 hours if it was travelling at the same rate as the rain last night so we decided to make a move to Millmerran - it would have been nice to have a rest day at Cecil Plains (and cheaper!) but the town doesn't have a small supermarket and since there is no Saturday afternoon and Sunday trading in small towns we couldn't really stay and carry another 2-3 days worth of food so we had to move really!
But not before we took a quick detour to take a photo of the town hall ...
... and below is a painting on the side of the hall
The wind was very strong today and it was a good tailwind for us and the road is just a local road that only the locals know about as we had no caravans pass us or overtake us today only just the locals and the odd truck. It was an excellent road and had no white lines anywhere! and it was relatively wide. A few places there was damage from where it constantly floods but there was no water over the road so we didn't have to wade through water!
At about 20km south of Cecil Plains we came across an entrance to so farm and it had signs with bush poetry on it and these 2 huge camp ovens
At Millmerran at the beginning of October there is a 'camp oven festival' and there are competitions etc with the best and biggest camp oven etc and I think these 2 ovens will be there this year. We saw that at the Cecil Plains caravan park that the 10 powered sites were booked out for the weekend of 2-3 October and I assume the whole of Millmerran is also booked out as this festival is a big thing ... I am wondering just how many festival we will encounter during September as we make our way south?!!!
We got to Millmerran just on 11am and the caravan park is full of units and dongas that are full of workers in the electricity and gas works so the tourist sites are empty and at the moment there is only us and one other caravan. It is really expensive to camp here especially with power - $25 per night and there is no bbq or camp kitchen. We have got power so we can listen to the game tonight between Geelong and Fremantle - we don't think we could cope with listening on the radio since it constantly fades in and out with the reception and always during the important parts and poor ole Neil can't hear and keeps asking what happened etc!!!
It has finished raining at the moment and hopefully for the rest of the day - according to the radar there is no more heavy showers so since there is no camp kitchen or bbq and it is a little wet we will have soup tonight and hopefully use the town park bbq tomorrow for a bbq.
We are staying here for a rest day tomorrow.
